Cudahy’s diverse dining scene continues to grow with the debut of La Crema, 3431 E. Plankinton Ave. The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and is housed in a stately Queen Anne-style building that has been updated inside and out from the space it once housed. the Mexican restaurant Samano, which had been in business for over 50 years.

A visit to La Crema during the opening weekend revealed that the new restaurant was packed with hungry guests eager to experience the new establishment. Although there were about a dozen parties ahead of us, the wait was quick and we were seated in the elegant but comfortable main dining room. Pops of greenery and artistic hand-painted signage accent the freshly painted walls and updated furnishings. Many windows let in plenty of natural light.

Drinks include Colombian coffee from Red Rock Roasters, cappuccino, iced coffee, hot Rishi tea or unsweetened Fuze iced tea, fruit juices, lemonade, Coca cola products and four kinds of fruit smoothies . There are no alcoholic beverages available yet, but our server said he will likely add them in the coming months.

Cookies and gravy

Breakfast favorites include Biscuits & Gravy ($10.50) served with two eggs made your way, plus breakfast potatoes; the Granola Bowl ($9), featuring fresh berries, bananas and honeydew melon with vanilla Greek yogurt, served with a muffin; and Chilaquiles ($13), corn chips topped with homemade salsa verde, pico de gallo, queso fresco and sour cream, served with two eggs and black beans on the side. My friend enjoyed her avocado toast ($11), a whole grain bread topped with smashed avocado brightened with lemon and olive oil. The two eggs on the side were prepared exactly as she ordered them – soft scrambled, a more careful cooking method that results in fluffier eggs.

Four different skillet options are served over breakfast potatoes, with two eggs made your way. They come with a choice of toast or pancakes. My mom had the Classic ($11.50), which was ham, green pepper and onions, with jack and cheddar. There was a good balance of ingredients and one didn’t overpower the other. Homemade buttermilk pancakes melt in your mouth and are available in plain, banana, pecan, blueberry, chocolate chip, or strawberry banana (prices vary for single and short pancakes). Omelettes, pancakes, and French toast complete the breakfast options, available all day.

what is there to eat

For lunch, there are several burger choices, as well as sandwiches such as Monte Cristo, Turkey Wrap, BBQ Chicken Tender Wrap (all $11 each) or the satisfying one I had – the Veggie Melt ($10), with tomato, onions, mushrooms and green pepper, topped with Swiss cheese on grilled sourdough. I enjoyed the tender and crunchy vegetables. All sandwiches and burgers are served with a choice of fries, mesclun or soup of the day. Lighter fare offers chicken, summer, or chopped Caesar salads ($12-14).

To cook The magazine reported last June that breakfast’s popularity is growing throughout the day, with 79% of Americans saying they’ve eaten breakfast foods outside of the traditional breakfast since the pandemic began. La Crema is a nice addition to the number of breakfast/lunch restaurants in the Milwaukee area reflecting this trend.

Eggs Up Grill opened its doors this week in Gastonia.

The South Carolina-based chain opened Monday, January 17 at 2609 S. New Hope Road, in the Food Lion mall at the corner of Redbud Drive and South New Hope Road.

This is the first Eggs Up Grill for Gaston County and for Keith Moore and his wife Soumitra. For what it’s worth, Keith Moore was having breakfast at the restaurant on Tuesday morning.

“What drew my wife and I to Eggs Up Grill was how family oriented it is. It’s a place where the family can gather and enjoy breakfast classics,” Moore said in a statement released by the company. “The concept of breakfast and lunch, as well as its opening hours, are very convincing. Also, the brand is community-centric and that’s important to us.

The dining room has both tables, a bar area and benches.

Moore has worked in the restaurant industry for 15 years, holding various leadership positions within IHOP. Moore has managed 22 IHOP restaurants along the East Coast in one form or another – including IHOP on Cox Road, which the franchisee closed in April 2020. A new franchisee now operates the Gastonia IHOP.

The Moores are interested in opening a new restaurant in Gastonia and believe there is great potential for the future.

Eggs Up Grill wait staff at the Gastonia location on South New Hope Road and Redbud. The restaurant opened its doors on Monday, January 17, 2022.

“Eggs Up Grill’s values along with our return to business in Gastonia at this great location make this a great opportunity,” Moore said.

The Moores have lived in Gastonia for 10 years, though they’ve moved back to town from Spartanburg, South Carolina

The Gastonia restaurant will employ a total of 28 people and is actively recruiting. Interested people can apply at eggupgrill.com or visit the restaurant and ask for the duty manager.

Hostess Ling Kwan and Host Ross Ma with Chinese New Year’s Menu at Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant ($ 498).

As the Year of the Tiger approaches on the Chinese lunar calendar, Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant has created an extensive Chinese New Year menu that local diners can gather around the table to welcome the New Year.

Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant continues to impress loyal customers with the addition of new menu items, many of which are influenced by cuisine from China and Hong Kong. The evolving menu keeps customers coming back to see what to expect, as the creativity at the heart of the house and exceptional customer service “amaze” diners with every visit.

Roasted Garlic Golden Chicken

Conveniently located on the Hookipa Terrace on the top floor of the Ala Moana Center, Jade Dynasty offers an award-winning dining experience in a welcoming atmosphere with dark wood accents and intricately crafted chandeliers. The family-run restaurant seats up to 300 people, and diners are encouraged to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and special events in the main dining room or in one of the seven private dining rooms.

Ave Kwok, Managing Partner of Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant, explains that, for the special Chinese New Year menu ($ 498 for a table of 10, excluding taxes and tips), “We chose these dishes because they bring good luck to our guests for the Year of the Tiger! “

Lobster with Ginger & Onion on a bed of noodles

The Celebration Menu is available now through February 16, and the Jade Dynasty team is requesting at least two days notice to prepare for the party. The menu begins with fried shrimp dumplings “representing prosperity in the form of ancient Chinese gold and silver currency” as well as imitation shark fin soup with seafood and bamboo mushrooms. to represent “harmony throughout the year”.

The diners are then treated with golden chicken with roasted garlic symbolizing the “Phoenix bringing you good news”, as well as fried fish with a sweet and sour sauce in addition to the lobster with ginger and onions on a bed of noodles. which mean “prosperity year after year.” and good health and spirit.

Braised pork chop in a chef’s special sauce served with buns All dishes are part of the Chinese New Year’s menu ($ 498)

Guests are then presented with braised pork ribs in a chef’s special sauce served with buns to lead to ‘making it every step of the way’. A Chinese New Year’s meal wouldn’t be complete without Good Luck Jai, a classic vegetarian specialty designed to promote “good luck and prosperity.”

To create a “relaxed atmosphere” in 2022, diners can then dip into sticky rice with meats preserved in Lotus Wrap, and the meal ends with scoops of mochi in a sweet ginger broth as a “happy ending to the meal.” which brings good fortune. “

Chinese New Year is celebrated on February 1 of this year, and on that night at 7:00 p.m. and again on February 2 at 6:30 p.m., Jade Dynasty is to hold a traditional Chinese lion dance to celebrate the occasion in style.

“For Chinese New Year, fish and chicken are a must, as well as mochi balls,” Kwok says. “We serve this menu in a family style so that everyone can share different items and really enjoy their time and celebrate together. “

Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant is also well known for its range of nearly 60 varieties of dim sum starting at just $ 2.95 which are served daily from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

According to one of its co-owners, according to one of its co-owners, according to one of its co-owners, the new sister restaurant of Street Savory food truck in Keene, according to the licenses of the city, will hopefully open. next week.

The new seafood restaurant – The Laughing Gull – was originally scheduled to open in mid-October. And while the restaurant itself is mostly ready to go, co-owner Austin Reida said he’s still awaiting multiple approvals, including a liquor license and parking lot occupancy.

“We were hoping it would all be over last week, so we’re still waiting to see, ultimately, when we can open,” he said.

The restaurant will be located in the former Thirsty Owl location at 141 Winchester Street, which closed earlier this year. Its owner, Darren Humphrey, did not respond to multiple inquiries from The Sentinel at the time as to why the bar and restaurant had closed.

Reida said he is negotiating deals with neighboring properties to rent additional parking spaces for The Laughing Gull.

According to city guidelines, a restaurant needs a parking space for five spaces.

While Reida isn’t sure exactly how many parking spots he and his fiancee, Kayla Borden, wanted to secure, he said they “wish they could fill the inside and outside of the restaurant.”

And although he said they weren’t changing the building’s floor plan, he still needed some renovations before it opened.

“We’re in the process of finishing the kitchen right now,” Reida said. “The last thing that really needs attention is the kitchen. The dining room is decorated and restored, so we are close.

The menu at the new restaurant will feature a variety of raw, baked, grilled and fried seafood, according to Reida, who grew up on Cape Cod. Some of the Street Savory Food Truck menu items will also be available, such as homemade burgers and snacks.

Reida and Borden will continue to operate Modestman Brewing Co.’s food truck in downtown Keene, serving locally sourced comfort food. The truck opened in 2018, and after closing for a while due to the COVID-19 pandemic, reopened last year on Modestman’s patio.

Reida added that the couple hired the majority of the help they needed for the front and back of the house, but could use a few more staff. Those interested can email them at [email protected].

The new breakfast restaurant’s menu includes an assortment of pancake and waffle options like sweet creme pancakes and fried French toast, Eggs Benedict options like Pork Belly and Rib-eye Breakfast Steak, and breakfast sandwiches. The mimosa menu includes varieties of cocktails like caramel apple, orange cream and peach.

The hours listed on the door were 7am-2pm for dining and 6am-1pm for drive-thru.

Phong Lan reopened its dining hall on June 1 after a long period of transportation only during the pandemic.

The Vietnamese restaurant offers a variety of popular Southeast Asian dishes, including its popular pho and spring rolls, at 216 Eighth St. SE in downtown Cedar Rapids.

Phong Lan is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

Barrel House comes to downtown Cedar Rapids

Less than two months after announcing a new Marion location, Barrel House has announced plans for a location in downtown Cedar Rapids, which will open in October.

“The upscale corner of First Avenue East and Second Street SE will be revived with traditional tavern flair, specialty cocktails and an exceptional selection of local beers on tap,” GLD Commercial Real Estate said in a press release.

The new location will occupy the 3,500 square foot space formerly occupied by La Cantina Bar & Grill.

Barrel House founder Jimmy Holt said he recognizes the effect of COVID-19 on downtown Cedar Rapids and the lack of dining options.

“We saw an opportunity to be at the forefront of the recovery and hope others will follow,” Holt said.

The Marion store will open this summer. Barrel House has locations in Davenport, Dubuque and Moline, Illinois.

Former Carolina Panthers player Marcus Lucas is bringing Lowcountry seafood to Charlotte with new restaurant Krustaceans Seafood.

Krustaceans opened on May 15 and specializes in boiling seafood – with an added twist. Customers can add spices and flavors to each dish, like jalapeño garlic, lemon pepper and the “original,” an Old Bay flavor, Lucas said.

Krustacean’s # 1 seller is a crab and shrimp platter, Lucas said. But for guests keen to explore, he recommends one of his star dishes: fried lobster tail with a red velvet waffle.

Prior to opening Krustaceans, the former Panthers undrafted free agent was looking for an investment opportunity, “something that could continue after my playing days.” During a visit to his hometown of Kansas City, Lucas’s aunt praised a seafood restaurant called Krab Kingz. There he met his current business partner and co-owner, and together they planned to open a similar seafood restaurant in Charlotte. After changing brands, they created Krustaceans Seafood.

Krustaceans was originally scheduled to open in March, but COVID-19 halted those plans. Located near several corporate offices and business parks in the shops of Lake Pointe, the restaurants were normally crowded during lunch hours. “And it was naked the first time we had ever seen it,” Lucas said.

After pushing back the opening date to mid-May, Krustaceans is now open for take out and delivery. “We wanted to take this time that people are a bit hesitant to go out and still be able to offer them great taste at a really high price,” Lucas said.

When the dining room opens, there will be music and gloves going internally, so guests can “get a little dirty” while creating a fun and safe environment. Lucas said Krustaceans has already received positive feedback from the community. “We’ve been open for three weeks now and I’ve seen people four or five times already. So I think we’re doing something right, ”Lucas said.

Looking back, Lucas said the most rewarding part of opening up Krustaceans was the learning process.

“I played football, and it was my life for a very long time. But now, to be just an entrepreneur and a business owner is to learn mechanics, ”Lucas said. “Now I could build a restaurant from scratch. It was the funniest part, just learning everything.

Restaurateur Robert “Bozz” Baucum remains faithful to the concept of mom-and-pop boutiques.

In 2011, Marilynn’s Place opened in Shreveport, which Baucum named after his mother.

This week, he officially opened the doors of a new restaurant named in honor of his father, Ralph.

Ralph’s Place, located at 1173 Louisiana Ave. in Shreveport, offers American cuisine, with some Louisiana classics embellished. The focus is on Baucum’s father’s favorite meal.

“He loved breakfast. Cookies and gravy and bacon and eggs, ”Baucum said.

Ralph's Place serves hearty breakfast donuts with scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese and a side of hash browns.

The place to be

Ralph’s Place is in the Highland neighborhood on the outskirts of downtown Shreveport.

The one-room open-plan dining room receives much of its natural lighting due to the rebirth and discovery of transom fixtures that are around 80 years old, Baucum said.

The comfortable dining area accommodates two- and four-tray tables with additional seating available outside.

Ralph's Place Dining Room. The official restaurant opened in January 2020 at 1173 Louisiana Ave. at Shreveport.

A large raised treehouse-style patio runs along the side of the building. The roof cover, mosquito nets and blinds provide protection from the sun and ceiling fans will make it a cool place to relax in the warmer months.

Rows of hanging dim lights set the mood for private after-hours events.

Soon, picnic tables and chairs will be added to the large backyard. It will be the perfect place for crayfish and shrimp porridge, Baucum said.

Chef Joncarl Lachman, who celebrates his Dutch heritage with Noord, the Northern European BYOB in South Philadelphia, has expanded downtown with the brunch shop Winkel at 1119, rue Locust.

It’s a redesign of the space that last housed More Than Just Ice Cream, and puts Lachman back in the morning game. (He was one of the first partners of The Dutch at Pennsport.)

The opening is Monday May 27.

Winkel (“boutique”) is also a Dutch treat, if you will, with breakfasts on weekdays (menu here) with Benedictine and pancakes as well as dishes such as a sandwich with ham and cheese Uitsmijter; a homemade smoked fish of the day; a rabbit frittata, white beans and chives; and shakshuka (a popular dish from the Nine with Shutters).

Lunch during the week (menu here) includes sandwiches and salads, including the huzaren salad, a traditional Dutch potato salad. Weekend brunches (menu here) are fixed at $ 25.

Dan Rodriguez, formerly of Noord and High Street on Market, is a chef.

Lachman and her husband Bob Moysan worked with the high ceilings of the space and added an open kitchen overlooking the 70 seats. A side space, which will be ready in several weeks, will be used for Rival Bros. coffee. and to take away.

The centerpiece of the dining room is Moysan’s huge imprint of an old Citroën parked on an Amsterdam street. Artist Maria Beddia created graphics of Dutch expressions.

Space will be available for private parties and evening pop-up events.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. No reservations.
